Origin of Rhodochrosite Rhodochrosite is mainly formed by the following four causes: Sedimentary origin: In low-oxygen sedimentary environments such as oceans, lakes, and lagoons, divalent manganese ions and carbonates in water combine to form rhodochrosite. Hydrothermal origin: Manganese-containing hydrothermal fluids rise along cracks and react with surrounding rocks to form rhodochrosite.
